• Single, widowed, divorced, separated, or married with husband or family living elsewhere
• Gross income up to Rs 50,000 a month in metro cities or Rs 35,000 a month elsewhere
• Stay up to 3 years, may be extended by the District Administration

Who may not qualify

• A resident must vacate within 6 months if her income goes above the limit, unless the District Magistrate allows an exception.
