In simple words

Free health cover of Rs 5 lakh a year for every senior citizen aged 70 and above, whatever the income. You get a separate Ayushman Vay Vandana card.

What you may get

Cashless hospital treatment up to Rs 5 lakh a year for about 2,000 medical procedures. All pre-existing diseases are covered from the first day, with no waiting period. Families already in AB PM-JAY get an extra top-up of up to Rs 5 lakh a year for the senior citizen alone.

All senior citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of income.

Main eligibility conditions

  • Age 70 years or above. There is no income limit.
  • CGHS, ECHS and Ayushman CAPF users can choose between their existing scheme and AB PM-JAY.
  • People with private health insurance or ESIC can also take AB PM-JAY.

Conditions we could not check

  • Senior citizens who already use CGHS, ECHS or Ayushman CAPF can keep that scheme or choose AB PM-JAY.
  • Senior citizens with a private health insurance policy or ESIC can also take AB PM-JAY.
  • The cover is Rs 5 lakh per year. If your family is already covered by AB PM-JAY, you get a separate top-up of up to Rs 5 lakh for yourself. Otherwise the Rs 5 lakh is shared by the family.
