National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS)

In simple words

A scholarship to help meritorious students from low income families continue school from Class IX to XII.

What you may get

Rs 12,000 a year (Rs 1,000 a month) for up to four years, from Class IX to XII. About 1 lakh fresh scholarships a year.

Who it is for

A Class VIII student in a Government, aided or local body school, whose parents' income is up to Rs 3.5 lakh a year and who qualifies in the state test, may be selected.

Main eligibility conditions

• Parental income up to Rs 3,50,000 a year
• At least 55 percent in Class VII (5 percent relaxation for SC and ST)
• Pass the state selection test with at least 40 percent (32 percent for SC and ST)
• Regular student in a Government, aided or local body school

Conditions we could not check

• Must be a regular student of Class VIII in a Government, Government-aided or local body school, with at least 55 percent marks in Class VII (5 percent relaxation for SC and ST).
• Must pass the state selection test (Mental Ability Test and Scholastic Aptitude Test) with at least 40 percent (32 percent for SC and ST).
• Students of Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, residential schools and private schools are not eligible.
• The guidelines read are from 2022 or earlier. Check the current state notice and dates.

Who may not qualify

• Students of Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, residential schools and private schools are not eligible.
• A student can take only one Central Government scholarship.

How to apply

1. Sit the selection test held by your state in Class VIII.
2. If selected, apply online on the National Scholarship Portal.
3. The state verifies the application. Renew the application on the portal every year in time.
